Mumbai Indians Squad SWOT Analysis
Here is MI’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threads
Strengths: explosive batting and bowling
When you have Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and SuryaKumar Yadav in the team and bought Cameron Green like batsmen then you no need to worry about batting. These batsmen make MI batting more terrifying.
Probability Cameron Green gets the IPL team’s attention because he was sensational for Australia at the top of the order in their recent T20 series against India. If MI able to find the best playing position for him in middle order, watching him as innings finisher with Tim David could be irresistible.
Last season Mumbai Indians lacked their fast bowling so they focused on this department this time. By retaining Jaspreet Bumrah, Jofra Archer and trading Jason Behrendorff made their fast bowling department attractive as an addition they bought Jhye Richardson for the base price.
Weakness: Spin-bowling
Mumbai Indians are lacking in their Spin bowling since they lost Rahul Chahar in the IPL mega auction. They are still unable to find the right replacement of Chahar, MI tried to fill the gap by acquiring Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande last year, but they failed to have much of an impact. Mumbai Indians signed young leg-spinning prodigy Nehal Wadhere from Punjab and added experience holder players like Piyush Chawla and Mumbai’s left-arm spinner Shams Mulani.
If you take a look at Kumar Kartikeya and Hrithik Shokeen It appears that their spin team isn’t very powerful. This is a particular area that could cause them to lose money in the event that they play critical games with turners or on dry pitches.
Opportunity: Ishan Kishan & Cameron Green have a great chance
Ishan Kishan was a bit of a victim in the challenging TATA IPL 2022 season, as his strike rate came being scrutinized. But, his recent spectacular two hundred runs in the IPL ODI series against Bangladesh could have propelled Ishan Kishan into contention to be an opener at the 2023 World Cup.
The Southpaw’s young star did miss this year’s T20 World Cup this year however, with the coaching looking towards in the near future, Ishan will have a wonderful chance to be successful in his IPL 2023 campaign and secure his spot as a player in the Indian white-ball squad.
Cameron Green might feel a little pressure when he fills the large role that were left by Kieron Pollard. But, if he begins firing across the board and is able to become one of the best players in the league in the years to come.
Drawing inspiration from Shane Watson’s growth as a player at Rajasthan Royals, Green can further boost his chances of playing in the three formats of Australia regularly.
Threads: Jaspreet Bumrah and Jofra Archer injury scares
Jasprit Bumrah has been the mainstay for the Mumbai Indians’ pace attack for a while and the duo of him as well as Archer are a pair that fans want to watch. But both bowlers will return from lengthy lay-offs from injuries, and this could pose a threat to Mumbai should they fail to keep their fitness.
Bumrah was injured again in Australia and was knocked out from this year’s T20 World Cup. His workload must be properly managed, but they do not have an adequate Indian back-up for the top pacer. It will be interesting to see if such players as Akash Madhwal or Arshad Khan will step in should they be necessary.
